PORTO CLUBLAND: The Wild Nightlife

1974, the colonial war reaches its end, and an explosion of nightlife follows.
By the 80s, pop music was moving in a different direction. Doce, the first Portugal’s girls group, were a huge phenomenon, with groupies singing and dancing along to “Ali Bábá”.

Penha Club, in Guimarães, quickly became the place to hear the hottest stuff in the late 80’s, bringing international acts to Portugal, like Kool & the Gang, Enigma and Boney M.

Then Pacha Ofir opens in 92, the first Pacha outside of Spain. It is said to be the biggest club in the country, bringing a new culture to the dancefloor, with the 48 Hour Non-Stop weekends and Carl Cox live sets.

But the 2000’s were right around the corner, and the sound of future was just about to arrive.

"The Ozone" were formed in 1990 by Pedro Vilas Boas, Eduardo Melo, João Melo and Ricardo Vilas Boas. They were the only band in Portugal playing live MIDI.
