ETILUXE

"What if one could behold divine beauty itself, in its unique form?"

— Plato, Symposium

Every act of creation is a search for beauty, empires carve their names into stone, statues are raised to honour gods and kings, temples stand for centuries, immortalizing one person’s vision.

Every artist aims to have a vision that captures the transcendental beauty, the universal truth.

I wanted a philosophy that could guide how we create: how lives are impacted, how fabrics are chosen, how each piece interacts with the world around it.

A philosophy that recognises beauty as an inner virtue: profound, invisible almost, omnipresent.

We call it Etiluxe, our philosophy on ethical luxury.

Ancient Craft Etiluxe Symbol.

PRESERVING ANCIENT CRAFT

There is something captivating and charming about techniques created long before us.

Like breathing mountain air, it invades us without asking, fresh, heavy, alive. A sense of reverence and connection.

We create with methods that have persisted for centuries: tailored lines drawn by hand, hems rolled by fingertips, silk thread spun in Portugal for 800 years.
The scissors I use belonged to my grandfather. The boxes that hold our pieces are made by hand.
Fátoli & Hers ensures that each piece can be cherished and passed down for generations.

"The human hand is the tool of tools."

— Aristotle

Natural materials Etiluxe symbol.

Natural, breathable materials

How wonderful it is to know that the fabrics touching our skin, had an entire life before us.
That we can carry a part of flora with us, and just like them, experience time, slowly and beautifully.

Cotton grown under the summer sun, silk dyed by hand in natural pigments, linings spun from forest fibre.

We create with materials that breathe with us, softening against the skin over time.
By making each piece to order, we ensure nothing is wasted.
Like Nature, everything has a purpose and everything is transformed.

“In nature nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything changes.”

― Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier, Traité élémentaire de chimie

Fair compensation Etiluxe symbol.

Fair compensation, local production

Beauty is not just what we see, it is how we create and who creates it.
I wanted to bring dignity to the craft, a sense of honour, as every creation and creator are part of something larger.

Our artisans are artists, and their work is treated as such, with fair compensation and local production.
Each piece begins and ends in the same hands.
Creative decisions are often made as a group, where each person brings a singular perspective.

"When bankers get together they talk about art.
When artists get together, they talk about money."

— Oscar Wilde

We strive to honour Portuguese craftsmanship and remind the world that our little strip of land, full of talent, resources and beauty, has always known how to create exquisite pieces.

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth.

– Psalm 50:2
